What is the guaranteed life span of the Kontrol Duo & Kontrol R1.9?
Kontrol Duo & Kontrol R1.9 are rot proof and do not tear easily. When installed as specified they will have a life equivalent to that of the roof structure of which it is incorporated.

- How does Kontrol Duo achieve its U Value?
Once installed Kontrol Duo achieves its U Value through the product's high emissivity foil surfaces, excellent thermal properties of the microfibre component and enclosed air gaps.

- Are Kontrol Duo & Kontrol R1.9 weather-proof?
Kontrol Duo & Kontrol R1.9 products are encapsulated with a tough waterproof fabric so as long as cut ends and perforations are sealed the products will withstand some adverse weather. However as with all insulation products, we recommend that the product is kept clean and dry, and direct sunlight should be avoided.

- How are Kontrol Duo & Kontrol R1.9 products finished / sealed at the Eaves / Ridge?
Kontrol Duo & Kontrol R1.9 products should be trimmed with an excess of over 50mm. This excess is folded against these timbers and stapled/nailed into position. The cut edge is then covered with Kontrol Tape.

- How are Kontrol Duo or Kontrol R1.9 installed in a refurb?
Either product is fitted to the underside of the rafters and the installation completed by battens and a plaster board. To obtain specific U-values other insulation may be inserted in the rafter gap between the roof felt/membrane and Kontrol. This build needs to be thermally assessed using proprietary U value calculators, such as BuildDesk. To access BuildDesk, please click on the following link.

- How has Kontrol Duo been used before? How can I see evidence?
The product has been installed on test bed installations. Installation can be viewed on our DVD. We can arrange viewing of current installations but the final product is not visible once installed as it is incorporated in the complete roof structure.

- How important is the air gap to the performance of Kontrol Duo?
The air gaps are an important aspect. A min of 25mm between each surface is needed to ensure the U Value can be achieved.

- What happens if Kontrol Duo or Kontrol R1.9 sags and the air gap is reduced?
Once installed, as detailed in the BBA 07/4477, the product will remain in position. The installation details are designed to ensure the air gaps are maintained.

- Why do I need to counter-batten during installation?
To achieve the required min 25mm air gap. This then ensures the U Value can be achieved.

- How do you account for electrical wiring / light fittings etc. in order to maintain the U value?
To maintain the U value all service holes should be repaired with Kontrol Tape in order to keep the product air tight.
To avoid overheating of inset Downlights, Kontrol needs to be 50mm away from the unit. To maintain the air seal we recommend that the cut edge be sealed and adhered to the plasterboard using Kontrol tape. To maintain air tightness the downlighter needs to have a suitable sealing gasket.
